Tenant Based Rent Assistance (TBRA)

Beginning in March 2014 the Eastern Iowa Regional Housing Corporation (EIRHC) was awarded funding through the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) HOME Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program. Each contract has funding available for approximately a two-year period.

Through the TBRA program, the participating family chooses a decent, safe, and sanitary rental unit in which to reside. If the landlord agrees to lease the unit to the household under the TBRA Program, and the EIRHC approves the rental unit, the Housing Corporation will make monthly housing assistance payments to the landlord to help the household pay their rent each month. Participating households pay a minimum of 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities or $50, whichever is greater.

In addition to monthly housing payment assistance, qualifying families may also be eligible to receive upfront security deposit assistance. The security deposit assistance cannot exceed an amount greater than two months’ rent, or $200.

In order to receive TBRA assistance through the EIRHC, qualifying participants must reside within the EIRHC’s jurisdiction.

This program does not have its own waiting list. If interested, please apply to the Section 8 HCV waiting list. When applying to the Section 8 HCV waiting list, please ensure you have checked the “disabled” box for each household member who is considered disabled. Names are pulled for this program for disabled applicants from the Section 8 HCV waiting list only – if you do not check the “disabled” box when applying, your name will not be pulled when applications are mailed out.
